Church Season

seasonChristians use the Liturgical year to name the religious or spiritual dimension in the natural seasons, months, weeks and days. The First Sunday of Advent begins the year that is broken into seasons: Advent, Christmastime, Lent, Eastertime and Ordinary Time.

Catholics mark, name and celebrate special feast and seasons with gusto and color in a Liturgical Year, but the liturgical year is not primarily about vestment colors, ashes and palms, poinsettias and Easter lilies. The liturgical year is the Church's way of providing a glimpse of the way God's time breaks into our time.

The liturgical year also marks time through the weekly readings and feast days. Scripture readings tell the stories of God's faithfulness and Jesus' life, death and resurrection; special feast days recognize events in Jesus' life as well as the lives of Mary and the saints.
